The silly season is well and truly on its way, and before extra guests start knocking at the door, we thought we’d invite you to kick off your shoes as we walk through the Jalcon show home, a new build proving that terrace living can have all you need and more.
Nestled at the base of Mt Albert, these homes offer bright and timeless interiors, modern finishes and private backyards, perfect for summer entertaining.
Interior stylist Ashlee Queree guides us through core spaces of the home, sharing actionable tips which would work in almost any space.
Entrance & finer details
Stepping into a room is one thing, but it's those spaces in between that can truly make or break the overall atmosphere. Right from the entrance the space is filled with a warmth that makes you want to take a seat and stay a while.
Ashlee tells us “I wanted the entryway to be clean and open and the Skew Mirror was the perfect item to have greet you as your walk in.” The mirror not only reflects the space, but adds a sophisticated, organic shape that captures light and movement, enhancing the flow between each area.
“Jalcon designs have clean lines, modern architecture and offer a neutral pallete for potential buyers to make their own and put their stamp on it. nood pieces were effortless to incorporate into these homes.”
Dining space
While there's something undeniably cosy about a weeknight dinner on the couch, having a designated dining area, regardless of its size, sets the perfect stage for welcoming guests and celebrating special occasions.
Ashlee explains “The kitchen and dining is open plan; therefore, all furniture was chosen with care to work in harmony and complement each other.”
The Whitby Round Dining Table and Ralph Dining Chairs neatly bridge the kitchen and living areas, sitting beautifully on the oak flooring and complementing the light wood tones in the living room. These dining pieces create an inviting spot for sharing meals, enjoying a cuppa, and of course — a spot to leave Santa’s cookies and milk when the time comes!
Lounge
In the lounge, the goal was to create a cosy atmosphere without overwhelming the space. Ashlee shares; “I wanted to have a statement sofa and Abbot Modular was the perfect piece of the puzzle. As a designer, I loved the choices of how many modules you can add and which way you can have the arms and orientation as it gave me flexibility when planning the floor plan.”
It can often be a tricky balance to strike between too little and too much, especially in open plan living. Ashlee explains; “I chose to stay with oak when selecting the coffee table and side tables, so the room felt cohesive and tonal.”
As we move through the lounge the cream flecks in the Kameri Flatweave Rug capture the different tones of neutral in the surrounding furniture, making the space feel settled and balanced. The rug also offers an interesting texture and carves out this corner as an area of cosy, relaxed comfort.
Outdoor
It’s no doubt the more inspiring and organised each space of your home is, the more likely you are to use them. The key to keeping summer entertaining simple lies in creating a seamless flow between your interior and exterior spaces.
“Letting the sofa be the jewel and key piece that your eye is drawn to, then connects you to the outdoors. Kiwis love indoor /outdoor living, so this home has that perfect flow from the living space to the outdoor setting. The Sullivan Table and Kelly stools are very versatile and relaxed in feel, so they fit nicely in this inner-city backyard.”
With thoughtful design, every gathering becomes an enjoyable experience, inviting everyone to linger a little longer.
Upstairs
“Upstairs the rooms are cosy and warm. They evoke comfort and softness. The Orion Table Lamps give a beautiful glow to the Cecil Bedsides and the room is anchored with the Infinite Landscape art, which acts as a headboard essentially. The throw finishes the space making it a room you want to hunker down in and call home.”
